History of S.R. 0021
The original S.R. 0021 corridor was constructed in 1939 and was
realigned and improved in 1953 to the existing two-lane reinforced concrete
facility. At that time, additional right-of-way was purchased for future
construction. The legal right-of-way is 120 feet in width and is centered on
the outside edge of the westbound travel lanes. As a result of continual
traffic congestion, the corridor has been upgraded at key intersections to
maintain safe traffic flows. Three (3) locations within the project limits were
widened to four-lanes since 1953. These areas are located near the S.R.0021
(Furman Highway) /
S.R.0166 (PA 166) / S.R.3012 (Leckrone Road) intersection, the S.R. 0021
(Furman Highway) / S.R. 3013 (McClellandtown/Lambert Road) intersection and the
S.R. 0021 (Furman Highway) / T-456 (Bukovitz Farm Road on the north & Messmore
Road on the south) intersection. All the widening occurred to the north of the
existing facility.
