Past Events

Public Meeting #2

Public Meeting #2 was held on Wednesday, Nov. 10 2004 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the American Legion Post 423 on Route 21 in Masontown, PA.

The Public Meeting was an open house format. Representatives from PennDOT and SAI Consulting Engineers, Inc. were available to discuss the project design and receive input from the public.

The meeting was open to the general public. Elected officials and property owners near the site were notified by letter and/or e-mail.

Public Advisory Committee Meeting #2

A follow-up Public Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting was held on October 7, 2003 at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church. Representatives from Masontown Borough, St. George Church, Allegheny Energy (Hatfield Power Station), Greene County, and state legislators provided PennDOT with updated feedback regarding the 2 finalist alignments – Alignment D (red) and Alignment A2 (green).

The end result was a compromise between the key stakeholders. It was agreed that a “half-width” version of Alignment D (designated Alignment D2) will be used. The north half of the bridge will be built adjacent to the existing bridge, traffic will be shifted to the new westbound lanes, the old bridge demolished, and then the south half of the new bridge constructed.

PennDOT has agreed to absorb the additional complexity and cost of half-width construction; Allegheny Energy has agreed to the new bridge being closer to the Hatfield Power Station and the St. George Serbian Orthodox church has agreed to a small right-of-way take (near the abandoned gas station).

Public Advisory Committee Meeting #1

After reviewing the results of the March 19, 2003 Public Meeting (Public Meeting #1, below) and further evaluating the bridge alignment options, the design team decided to formulate a special Public Advisory Committee (PAC) to assist with the decision process and help select the alignment the best meets the needs of the community.

The PAC meeting was held on July 31, 2003 at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church. Representatives from Masontown Borough, Fayette County, St. George Church, Allegheny Energy (Hatfield Power Station), Greene County, state legislators and U.S. legislators provided PENNDOT with their feedback regarding the 2 finalist alignments - Alignment D (red) and Alignment A2 (green).

A follow-up meeting will be held in early September 2003, after additional information is provided to the design team by the PAC members.

Public Officials Meeting #2

The design team met with local, county and state officials on March 19, 2003 from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. The focus of the meeting was the preliminary results of the bridge location study. Specific facts (such as property impacts, business impacts and construction cost) were discussed for each of the 3 potential bridge locations.
